My painting, Skull, has been shortlisted for the award and included in the exhibition, which aims to shine "a spotlight on some of the UK's most inspiring, dynamic and interesting new artwork from young up and coming artists". - thecrackmagazine.com You can vote for me for the Peoples Choice Award here: https://surveyhero.com/c/1f8715bd The exhibition will run until the 25th of August. www.thebiscuitfactory.com/ I will be giving a painting demo/talk at Dundee Art Society on Friday the 10th of May at 7.30pm. All friends and guests of members, as well as new visitors, are welcome to attend for a fee of £2.00 per person. "In this demonstration, Dundee based artist Martin Hill will work wet-on-wet showing his technique which is characterised by his loose handling of paint and his expressive brush work. Martin is being hailed as ‘one of Scotland’s most exciting young painters’." 7.30pm until 9.30pm Doors open at 7.00pm Dundee Art Society 17 Roseangle Dundee DD1 4LP http://dundeeartsociety.co.uk/ Earlier this year I spent some time painting a penguin for Maggie's penguin Parade here in Dundee. The penguin parade is a free and accessible public art and cultural event that see's 'a colony of colourful giant penguins invade the city of Dundee during 2018'. The trail went live on 29th June and will be live all summer culminating in a grand farewell event in Slessor Gardens on 22 and 23 September before a spectacular auction on 24 September 2018. The project will raise funds for Maggie's Dundee, a charity which provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their families and friends.
My penguin, entitled Journalism, can be found outside the McManus Galleries, opposite the DC Thomson building. My design draws inspiration from Dundee's famous history in publishing. To illustrate this, the design features a depiction of the DC Thomson building on the front, the cover of the first issue of the Dandy on the back, and scenes from the printing industry on either side. My first exhibition of 2018 will be a solo show taking place at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh. The exhibition, entitled Re:Work, will be comprised of twenty pieces, both paintings and drawings.
The show will be open on the 8th of January and will run until the 17th of February. The private view will be on the 12th of January 5pm-8pm and all are welcome to attend. https://www.leithschoolofart.co.uk/ |
